Shore & Barker confirm their return

Well, isn’t this exciting! Deadly Rugby is proud to announce that the Dhuwa Rugby Carnival is locked in for April 2025 back in Darwin, NT.

SHORE is returning to defend the Dhuwa Trophy and Barker College are coming back to have another crack.

This will see them pit their 15As against the NT Representative Team and another school about to be announced.

These kids will visit breathtaking country, and have local Indigenous Elders and Players join their groups for the week for a once-in-a-lifetime, side-by-side, lived cultural immersion experience like no other. Growing as humans, being immersed in First Nations culture, giving back, and supporting a regional rugby community.

If you have a school or a club that would like some information regarding the Dhuwa Carnival in Darwin next April, reach out. This is a First Nations experience; we want to share it with as many kids as possible.

We asked David Mason-Jones (Executive Director, Shore Foundation & Master in Charge, Rugby) what he thought the best part of the last trip was: "Honestly, it was the connection. Having Uncle Richie with the kids for the entire week, the local Indigenous players as part of our group, visiting their country, and just spending time together on the bus, at training, in the game… it was brilliant. We put a ball in their hands, and everyone was just a rugby player and that’s what led to the real connection.”

Manuel Garcia Posadas (Director of Rugby, Barker) couldn’t make the last trip as he was in Japan with The Barker girls’ team, so we asked him what he was looking forward to most and he told us “Mate, the boys came back from the last trip different people. They had the best time and couldn’t stop talking about it. The Saltwater Ceremony, the Fresh Water Ceremony. The Rugby was great, don’t get me wrong, but it was the experience on Country that really had an impact. I can’t wait.”

Neither can we, Manny. Neither can we!
